Each one of us has a group of people we call “family”. Most refer to them as the name Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, Grandma, Grandpa ‘ect’. Not all family is biological, there is no law telling you who is or who is not apart of your family.
Family is a group of people who have never left your side. The people who have been there for you through thick and thin. The people who don’t leave when things get rough. Family are the people that are there for you when things happen in your life when no one knows the answer. Family helps you find the answer. This past year I had questions no one, not even google, had the answers on what to do next. I still don’t know what the answer is but I have a family by my side helping me figure out the answers and I’m helping them find theirs too.
To me one of life’s greatest and most important lessons is learning who your family is, as well as learning the true meaning of family. This is because at the end the only thing that truly matters is family. Growing up I was technically an only child, but every year I had an exchange student come and live with us. We opened up our heart and our home to this stranger that I referred to as my brother or sister. We were family yet we were biologically related, but that didn’t mean anything to us. At the end of each school year when it was time for them to head home it was another heartbreak, even though we knew from day one. We would have to say see you later (never goodbye). It hurt just as bad. Yet we would never fade apart no matter how many miles away we may be. We are family and “family means no one gets left behind” – Lilo and stitch.
If you haven’t had the chance to watch Lilo and Stitch, it’s about a little girl named Lilo who has a “broken family”, then a monster from space named stitch comes to earth and meets Lilo. They learn to love each other, as well as learn what the true meaning of family is.
I hope as you read this you know who those people in your life are. I hope that you tell them you love them and how much they mean to you because at the end of the day they are the people that matter most!
